For slides in your browser

Use your phone as a laser pointer for your slides

Hold the button on your phone and point to move a laser dot on the slide. Clikr opens in your phone browser, so there is no phone app to install. It pairs with a Chrome or Firefox extension on the computer where your slides run.

What it is

The dot is drawn on the slide

Your phone does not shine a laser. Clikr draws the dot on the slide itself, in the browser tab where your presentation runs.

Because the dot lives in that tab, Clikr needs a deck running in a desktop web browser, such as Google Slides or PowerPoint for the web.

If you need a beam you can shine on a wall or a whiteboard, a hardware laser pen is what you want. Clikr is for pointing at slides.

How it works

How to use your phone as a laser pointer

  1. Install the extension

Add Clikr for Chrome or Clikr for Firefox on the computer that runs your slides.

  2. Scan the QR code

Scan the QR code on your computer screen with your phone. The Clikr web app opens in your phone browser.

  3. Hold to point, swipe to switch

Start your slide show in the browser. Hold to point at the slide, and swipe to change slides.

Free and Pro

The pointer is free, and Pro adds more

Free, no account needed

  • Laser pointer on the slide
  • Swipe to change slides
  • Scroll the page from your phone
  • Reload the page remotely
  • Play, pause and skip a video on the page

Video controls appear only while a standard HTML5 video on the active tab is playing or paused part way through, and only after you allow Clikr to read slide content.

Pro, a one-time payment

  • Spotlight Mode dims everything except the area under the pointer
  • Magnifier enlarges part of the page in place and follows the pointer
  • With Custom Pointer Colors you choose the dot and ink color
  • Pointer Trail leaves a fading trail behind the dot
  • Draw Mode puts a pen, an eraser and clear-all on the slide

Pro has no subscription and no renewals. Sign in to buy it, or to start a 14-day trial with no card needed. See everything Pro includes.

Works with

Decks that run in a browser tab

Clikr works with Google Slides, PowerPoint for the web, Keynote for the web, Reveal.js, Slides.com and Mentimeter. Read the Google Slides clicker guide or the PowerPoint clicker guide.

Clikr does not control the installed PowerPoint or Keynote apps, and a PDF in the browser’s built-in viewer is not reliably supported. If your slides run in a native desktop app with no browser version, a dedicated remote is the better call. Compare presentation clickers.

To change slides, Clikr sends the keys your deck already listens for: the arrow keys by default, and Page Up and Page Down on Mentimeter. Reveal.js decks, Slides.com included, move through Reveal’s own next and previous controls.

Privacy

How your phone reaches the computer

Your phone and computer connect over encrypted WebRTC. Whenever your networks allow it, the connection is peer to peer and direct. When they do not, a relay passes the encrypted traffic on without being able to read it. During pairing, a server exchanges the short connection handshake between the two devices. If you use Connect Without Scanning, a Pro feature, that server also keeps the pairing record that lets your phone reconnect without a new scan.

Your slides, speaker notes and slide previews never reach Clikr’s servers and are never stored.

Questions

Phone laser pointer questions

Does my phone need a real laser?

No. Your phone never shines a beam. Clikr draws the laser dot on the slide in the browser tab where your deck runs, so the phone only needs a modern mobile browser.

Do I need to install an app on my phone?

No. The phone side is a web app that opens from a QR code in your phone browser, with no app store install. The one install is the Clikr extension in Chrome or Firefox on the computer that runs your slides. If you like, you can add the web app to your home screen.

Which phones work?

The phone side works in any modern mobile browser. It is tested on recent versions of Chrome and Firefox on Android and Safari on iPhone.

Does it work with PowerPoint or Keynote on the desktop?

Not the installed desktop apps. Clikr controls decks running in a browser tab, so it works with PowerPoint for the web and Keynote for the web. A PDF open in the browser’s built-in viewer is not reliably supported.

Is the laser pointer free?

Yes. The laser pointer, swiping between slides, scrolling, remote reload and video controls are free and need no account. Pro is a one-time payment with no subscription and adds tools such as Spotlight Mode and Draw Mode. Sign in to start a 14-day Pro trial, with no card needed.
